The Paradox of the Prankster

My Weekend Mantra -- Sunny Day Lazy Edition
Back to Full Blog

Hotter than Hell
A real firecracker
No matter what I do
Gettin' hard to stay cool

Sun's beating down
Couldn't be drier
Baked through to the bone
Skin stickin' to my stool

Damn triple digits
Temperatures keep risin'
No matter what you do
Better jump in the pool

The Kinks

Sunny Afternoon

Written by Ray Davies

The tax man's taken all my dough
And left me in my stately home
Lazing on a sunny afternoon
And I can't sail my yacht
He's taken everything I've got
All I've got's this sunny afternoon

Save me, save me, save me from this squeeze
I got a big fat mama trying to break me
And I love to live so pleasantly
Live this life of luxury
Lazing on a sunny afternoon
In the summertime
In the summertime
In the summertime

My girlfriend's run off with my car
And gone back to her Ma and Pa
Telling tales of drunkenness and cruelty
Now I'm sitting here
Sipping at my ice cold beer
Lazing on a sunny afternoon
Help me, help me, help me sail away
Well give me two good reasons why I oughta stay
'Cause I love to live so pleasantly
Live this life of luxury
Lazing on a sunny afternoon
In the summertime
In the summertime
In the summertime

Ah, save me, save me, save me from this squeeze
I got a big fat mama trying to break me
And I love to live so pleasantly
Live this life of luxury
Lazing on a sunny afternoon
In the summertime
In the summertime
In the summertime

I have been trying not to complain about the heat because I do complain about the winter ALOT, as you know.
But this is a great description of this summer.

The heat has backed off on us here in Nevada for a bit it seems. it sounds way too hot for me there. hope you are at least comfortable my friend.

Yep, Ron, I bet it's almost 20 degrees warmer where you are...

Looks like drought's coming back this way too. It's so hot that the rain from the thunderstorms doesn't make it to the ground. But the lightning does...

Well, I'm going to get over to the pool and smell the coconut ladies laying in the Sun. Not terribly ambitious, but I won't be able to take the heat this afternoon. So now's the time for a dip!

take care - and use some sun screen

Well, WP, at least out these parts we got next to no humidity and it cools down to 60 after Sundown so we can sleep with windows open. It's so dry that what little rain we do get evaporates in the arid, high country air before it hits the ground. So there is a silver lining... as long as you don't mind the occasional wildfire....

May you and Matt and the girls stay cool on this fine August day!

Being a Summer baby, Scratch, Summer is my season. Thankfully, the altitude helps us cool off at night and soon enough the Snow will fly...

I hope you feel some cool breezes blowing your way!

Know what ya mean about this HOT weather. I mowed my back yard last night and got up and did the front this morning and it was awful! Glad it's done at least for this week.

I'm singing a bit o' Robert Palmer "some like it hot and some sweat when the heat is on..." Stay cool! We are still in the 80's at 10:30 pm tonight. I kinda like it that way. :)

I had to uncover our swimming pool. Swimmers were complaining that the water was too warm.

You could never sound as empty headed and useless as Paris Hilton.

We're setting records this Summer, Taylor, the heat and lack of precipitation reinforce each other. The Sun bakes the moisture out of the ground. With only 3.5 inches of measurable moisture since January 1, typically we are around 10+ inches by this time of year, there's not a lot of moisture in the dirt in the 1st place. When the ground is baked, the Sun rays reflect back up and dry out the air which heats up from the Sunlight and bakes the ground some more. We are supposed to enter our Monsoon season and maybe we can catch up on the rain a little....but I am not betting on it. I sure hope we get off of daylight savings time soon, those extra hours of daylight are tearing us up out here.

But we'll have fun nevertheless in this dry dusty Cowtown. Have a great day!

Ahhh yes, Miss Six, I recall your lovely singing voice from our times in the VB whilst enjoying the many fun things to do as we drove about in your fine Toyota pickup truck. Angelic you are, and whenever I think of you my mood ring starts to sweat. Even from thousands of miles away, I can still feel your extreme Hotness!

My best wishes to you for a fine week ahead and good health for all in the SFB family.

I understand your plight, Whit, once the water gets in the mid-80's it does feel too warm. It's a burden we all have to bear...
|<   <<   >>   >|

by Prank (PM , CC ) on Sunday August 3, 2008 @ 3:41 PM

As my Grand-daddies used to tell me, Misty, it's important for a Man to know how to sit on his own stool. I just don't like it when it gets sticky. The stool that is.

I used to swim in the street but almost got run over by a Hummer. Now like most Men, I usually like a good Hummer, but not when I'm swimming on my side of the road. Those big tires can chew you right up.

So please be careful out there, and may your August be the best August ever!

Good strategy, Miss Lou, breaking the job into 2 tasks keeps you fresh and out of that hot Sun. Maybe some of this dry weather will head your way and the grass won't grow as fast. One thing I don't miss here at the new Palace is mowing the lawn. My front lawn is xeriscaped and needs little water. Native bushes, buffalo grass and a few flowers to bring out some color. Easy to care for and no mowers needed.

May the week ahead be full of massive goodness!

by Prank (PM , CC ) on Sunday August 3, 2008 @ 3:50 PM

Well, PolarB, Prank is losing his focus again. The oppressive heat does not meet my requirements and I have been forced to cut short my late morning nap cycle on the North balcony.

Rest assured, Prank has the Palace at acceptable temperatures in the interior rooms but nap time on the North balcony is non-negotiable and I expect compliance immediately. If not, the Claws of Justice shall deploy accordingly.

In the meantime, it's time for a little shut eye. Best wishes to you and Lovie from all who work for me here at the Prankster's Prairie Palace!

by Doc Sam (PM , CC ) on Sunday August 3, 2008 @ 4:25 PM

I am sorry for my tardy reply, Doc Sam. I am in the midst of a nap cycle and this infernal device that Prank set up for me makes noises when email arrives. You ask a very good question, yes, a verrrrrrrry good question you ask.

Yes, detain Prank and administer stern therapy. I am a results oriented Supreme Ruler, Doc, please meet my expectations and no one shall be injured. You have my word.

Hopefully the snowfall this past winter will carry you all through drought scares....

I will gladly take the CO 100 over the GA 100 - we have this weird thing here called a heat index. WTF? I know the terms "drift" and "wind chill factor" but this heat index thing is quite new to me. LOL

Stay cool, buddy

|<   <<   >>   >|

by chandabear (PM , CC ) on Sunday August 3, 2008 @ 5:02 PM

Yep, I am in full agreeance, chanda, GA 100 has that humidity component that we rarely see in CO at 100. Or ever for that matter. And GA doesn't cool down at night as much either. It's amazing to feel the breeze, watch the clouds collect, see the lightning and hear the thunder, smelling the rain but the dry air never let's the rain hit the ground...

Reservoirs are in good shape in most places but another 6 months of this and we could singing a different tune.

May you and Buffalo Rob have a super fine Sunday and Safe Travels!

I always enjoyed Ray Davies songs, the Kinks were such an awesome band. Eric Burdon, the original Fleetwood Mac, The Yardbirds in all their incarnations, The Who, Stones, Faces -- the list of 60's Brit colossalosity goes on and on, Java Joe. Glad you dug Sunny Afternoon and may you have a really fine afternoon!

We've been hovering 96-98 with a heat index of around 105 (how hot it feels!). It's miserable here with the high humidity too. Be glad you have the drier heat, Prank. But, hot is still hot!

Hope all is well with you!

The Kinks are singing "lazing on a summer afternoon..."

I like this quote, "Deep summer is when laziness finds respectability." ~ Bern Williams.

Wishing you some cool mountain breezes.

And by the way, even that quack Doc... er, don't tell him I called him that, please ... should know that the warmth is good for a kitty's bones and Woogie should do just fine as long as he has enough fresh cool water and a bit of shade at mid-day.

Stay cool, Prank.

Well, ice, the heat wave broke and now it's snowing on the mountain tops. My back hair is growing back in early this year so I'm betting on a short Summer. I know DeBunkem will be happy about that since he's used up the 2 metric tons of the back hair shavings I sent him in ought 6 for his bikini knitting and demand for high quality hand knit Prank-hair bikinis is higher than ever.

Good Morning Secret,

It's snowing on the peaks above 10,000 ft today and we may hit 60 degrees with lots of rain at 5,420 today. The heat wave has broke and we may see an early Fall. But who the heck really knows? I'm just glad to be alive to witness all the craziness, weather-wise and otherwise.

Hope your weekend is very cool, in a good way, of course!
