The Paradox of the Prankster

 PMS News Flash -- 25 May 2007

Domestic Honeybee Shortages Threatening U.S. National Security Directly Tied to Spikes In Global Bee Beard Demand And Al Qaeda

Fashionable Bee Beards and Bee Beard inspired ensembles creating consternation among Bee Beard cartel leaders.

PMS Boulder, CO · Domestic stocks of Honey Bees are plunging due to unprecedented demand for Bee Beards and Bee Beard inspired outfits such as those modeled by Paris Hilton and international superstars such as Mr. Happy! above. Executives of The Global Organization of Bee Beard Exporting States (GOBBES) have agreed to provide increased stocks of Bee Beards and Bee Beard related ensembles to meet demand. The net effect will not be felt in the United States until later this Summer due to bottlenecks in Bee Beard refinery capacity domestically and ever increasing utilization of Bee Beard stocks by Chinese and Indian consumers. American consumers can expect rising prices and spot shortages of both domestic and imported Bee Beards until the Bee Beard markets regain equilibrium.

President Bush declared that increasing Bee Beard supplies domestically and internationally for our troops overseas as the number one priority in the Global War on Terror. Bush stated at a recent emergency session of the American Bee Beard Association (ABBA) at Bee Lake, Wisconsin, "They hate us for our Bee Beards and the freedoms they represent. No hive's output can be wasted on sexy thigh highs when Osama Bin Laden taunts us with Al Qaeda sponsored Bee Beards. I expect Congress to bring forward legislation to outlaw Bee Beard underpants, thongs and bikinis. It's in our national interest to have the Paris Hilton's of the world go round naked rather than sport Bee Beard accessories even if she is going to rot in that jail over there near Los Angeles next month. I am the decider and that's what I have decidered!"

Satuday Night Fever -- Kickin' Ass with Gov't Mule

These two songs are from the Gov't Mule show I attended at the Fillmore in Denver, Colorado on April 26, 2007. Gov't Mule headlined the show which had the legendary roots reggae of Toots & The Maytals as the opener. Toots Hibbert put on a very fine set and then came out and sang with Mule on "Since I've Been Loving You". A truly fine kickoff to a two night stop in Denver. While I enjoy Mule's original tunes a lot, I find their choice of songs to cover to be my favorite part of their shows and this evening was no exception. Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, James Brown, Sam Cooke, Humble Pie and Allman Brothers songs were all in the mix on this very cool Thursday evening. Gov't Mule allows people to tape their shows in a special section just behind the soundboard so I make it a point to say Hi to the tapers and bring them refreshment while they record the festivities and they usually provide a copy of the show for me in all it's digital glory, a win-win situation. I think the sound quality is mighty fine and I hope you enjoy!

Gov't Mule is Andy Hess on Bass, Warren Haynes on Guitar and Vocals,
Danny Louis on Keyboards and Matt Abts on Drums.

My Thursday Mantra -- Been A Little Busy And Now You Know Why Edition

Born and raised
Near the Great Foggy Bottom
The swamps of Northern Virginia
Where the Potomac does flow

It was there
I tried to do what I ought to
Got some schooling
Learnt most of what I know

Then one day
I packed up my auto
Headed out West to the
Rocky Mountains of Colorado

Spent 24 years
Exploring things a Mile High
Saw many grand sights
And I almost froze

But deep inside
There came a yearning
To walk on that land
Where my Grandfather's used to roam

In my mind
I heard something calling
Come on back home
Where the Dogwoods grow

So last year
I took a few trips to my Homeland
Met some nice folks and this sweet Flower
There's a Lady I got to know

Sold my house
Here in Colorado but
It was break even and I got to keep working
To raise enough dough

I still dream
Of the fine times that I had
I'll keep on laboring
And then I shall go

My Weekend Mantra -- More Like Half A Sennight Edition

Way out on the Plains
The day before yesterday
93 funnel clouds
They came out of the sky

Then I turned to the West
Saw those dark clouds shroud
That whole mountain range
Heavy snow's blowing up high

Later I got stuck
Inside a thunderstorm
Mama Nature's Tesla coil
Exploding before my eyes

Rain falling in sheets
Flooding out the street
Had to find shelter fast
Plus it must be nearby

Went towards higher ground
Despite the thunder crash
I remembered a place where
They serve up blueberry pie

Thankful for the mercy
At least the hail it missed me
Got clothes out in the trunk
And I got pie somewhere dry

My Thursday Mantra -- Wandering Mind Edition

Portrait of Charles Pooperoo by R. Crumb

At this desk
All the calls
Are all the same
In order to
Placate my unruly brain

I found that
Jotting down thoughts
Brings so much peace
To Channel swim
You need to grease

Then you shall
Win the race
The Queen presents your
Champion's crown so
You can proudly roar

Across the room
Through the door
And down the halls
Back to work
This clueless madman calls

The same guy
Again and again
His name doesn't change
If it did
Wouldn't seem so strange

Wondering if this
Is some dream
Because if it is
Time to break
And take a whizz

So I concentrate
On my task
Trying not to laugh
Do some good
Time and a half

Another contract comes
Down the chute
I give much thanks
Pays the bills
Funds all my pranks

Then I hear
The Banshee holler
Climbing off my chair
A closer look
So rude to stare

Examining that which
Seems so new
Maybe it's deja vu
A fresh fascination
Some tasty new stew

Later I sup
Upon the roof
Big Sky staring back
As I dine
And throw one back

Stars come up
Then the Moon
Out comes my smile
Soon to sleep
Start again in awhile
