The Paradox of the Prankster

Saturday Night Fever -- Stevie Ray Vaughan Style

I was talking to a buddy of mine today about a Stevie Ray Vaughan and Triple Trouble show I saw in Boulder, Colorado back in 1985. They used to call his backing band Double Trouble but on that October night Stevie introduced them as Triple Trouble since they had added a keyboard player to the band full time. They played so many styles that evening and the encore started off with SRV sitting on the edge of the stage and playing a solo jazz piece before the band came back out and then they blasted away. I never sat down during the whole show and my date that night said my jaw was wide open pretty much for the whole 2 hour extravaganza. A truly awesome spectacle it was and I thought I would go look for some SRV vids over on YouTube and lo and behold, I found some. On 'Pipeline' Stevie's brother Jimmie comes out to play and they do something using just one guitar that I have never seen before, It seemed to me that I might as well share them with all my buddies here on Blogstream so I hope you dig one of the all time great guitar players who left this World way too soon.

My Thursday Mantra -- An Open Invitation Edition

Stock photo of Summer wildflowers near Lake Irwin above Crested Butte, Colorado
by Andy Cook, to see more of Andy's fine work click here.

It's been a long hike
Got base camp set up
Cooked me some dinner
Cold beer in my cup
I sat back and watched
The Sun go down
On days like this
It's impossible to frown
The only thing better
Would be to have you here
Maybe someday I can convince
You to come on out Dear
It's a long long way
Far from your home
Here in the mountains
Where the wild things roam
But I'll keep us safe
And I won't need a gun
As we dance on the peaks
Gonna have us big fun
A lotta things to see
From 2 miles high
You just won't believe it
But it's no lie
And if you feel like some music
There's a few places we can go
All kinds of styles
With some folks that you know
So won't you think about it
If you can find the time
I hope you come out to visit
And share some days sublime

My Wednesday Mantra -- Prank's Blue Moon Edition

As another dawn arrives
Moon Child lingers while
Her dark eyes still
Flash in his mind

As his heart beats
Loneliness lives within him
Wondering if it ever
Ends before he dies

As it's like before
His love never ceasing
She gave sweet shelter
The longing never leaving

As he marches forward
Hopeful toward new days
So many miles between
Her sweet gentle kisses

As those around him
Telling him it's useless
Forget about that which
Will never be attained

As he wipes away
Tears and his frustration
Never kills his determination
To see her again

 Thank You For Your Service

We mourn your death
And celebrate your life
Our freedoms preserved at
Such a high price
The bullet strikes as
You answered the call
Never forgotten that you
Gave it your all
On this day we
We give many thanks
For your bloody sacrifice
No matter what we
Think of these wars
Your strength and courage
We shall remember forevermore

Saturday Night Fever -- Another 3 Pack Of Savory Goodness From The Vaults A Mile High

It's a holiday weekend and I pulled some fun stuff from the Prankster's Vault of non-commercial unreleased recordings of independent origin that I have posted up on youtube for your Saturday Night fever pleasure. First up is a slice with two songs by The B-52's from 1983 at the ZDF Concert from May 1983. Then we switch gears for the crunchy goodness of Iggy and the Stooges singing two of their really cool signature songs which just smokes. The "world's forgotten boy" indeed. Then we go way back to 1976 before Patti Smith blew out her vocal chords when she broke her neck falling off a stage in Tampa, FLA in 1977. Patti covers an old Velvet Underground tune which is remarkably upbeat given it's subject matter and then does one of her own songs from her very first and, in my humble opinion, best albums called "Horses". I hope you all enjoy the tunes and may your weekend be big fun!

The B-52's - Song For A Future Generation/Planet Claire
Dortmund, Westfalenhalle, Germany - 14 May 1983

Iggy & The Stooges - 1969/I Wanna Be Your Dog
Live Montreux, Switzerland - 14 July 2006

The Patti Smith Group - We're Gonna Have A Real Good Time Together/Redondo Beach
Live Sweden - 3 October 1976
